Kumasi, July 12, GNA – Some concerned members of the Tomato Sellers Association at the Bantama Market in Kumasi, have kicked against what they described as the unlawful imposition of one Nana Ama Yeboah, a member, as their President.
They described the development as fraudulent and a breach of the Association’s own constitution and regulations, and therefore, appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Office of the Asantehemaa to intervene in order to defuse mounting tension at the market.
« We are appealing to the authorities to use their good offices to call to order Nana Yeboah, also a tomato seller, who has arrogated to herself the powers of a president without due recourse to the appropriate rules », Mrs. Abena Fosu, the Spokesperson told the media in Kumasi.
This was after the concerned traders had staged a demonstration to register their displeasure at the unfolding events.
Accusing Nana Yeboah of conniving with a few disgruntled members to advance her hidden agenda, they vowed to have none of that and also called for a probe into the activities of the self-styled President, as well as her assigns, especially in relation to the finances of the Association.
Mrs. Fosu explained that the Association had for some time now been managed by an interim committee as the presidency position had become vacant.
Work of the committee, she said, had been approved legally per their constitution, adding that those serving on it were also known by the city authorities and Office of the Asantehemaa.
« It is, therefore, surprising that Nana Yeboah without any authority, could all of a sudden, assume the position of a President with the connivance of her cronies », she said.
The traders affirmed their determination to use all fair and legal means, to stop the self-styled President from posing as their leader, saying this would be a recipe for continued tension and wrangling at the market.
