Abuja, Jan. 11, 2019 (NAN) Aisha Falode, Chairperson of the Nigeria Women Football League, on Friday said that more efforts would be needed to sustain the country’s dominance in female football in Africa.

Falode, who spoke against the backdrop of the recent CAF award held in Senegal where Nigeria won in the female football category, said that other African countries were catching up in the continent.

NAN reports that Them I Kgatlara of South Africa was named the Woman Africa Footballer of the Year ahead of Nigeria Asisat Oshoala and Francisca Ordega.

« Even though we won the last Africa Women Nations Cup, we have a lot of of work to do because other countries on the continent are catching up.

« They are catching up because there is a systematic deliberate attempt and plan, there is a template they are following.

« What South Africa has been able to achieve was as a result of a deliberate plan they have been working on for ages and it is beginning to give them result.

« We need to go back to our dominance by planning and being consistent, it is not what you do once and withdraw, we have to keep doing it to achieve our goals and set other goals, » she said.

On the women league, the chairperson said that board would build on the success recorded in the last season to further improve on the league.

« Ours is to create the different activities for building a solid ground and that is what we did last year.

« We introduced the Super Champion by playing the Super 4 and the Aiteo Cup and we did it strategically to take a message to the schools on the importance combining sport with education.

« We will do more of that this season to further improve on the league, » she said.

NAN reports that the Super 4 tournament will hold from Jan. 23 to Jan. 26 at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.

Participating teams are Rivers Angels; League defending champions, Nassarwa Amazons; Bayelsa Queens and Sunshine Queens. (NAN)
