Ada (GAR), Feb.12, GNA – The Police at Ada in the Greater Accra Region have expressed worry over the increasing rate of road accidents on the Accra-Aflao Highway.
Mr George Andrews Kumah, Chief Superintendent of Police (C/SUPOL), Ada Divisional Police Commander, said negligence and indiscipline on the highway were gradually making the stretch a death route.
The Divisional Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Kasseh-Ada that the Police recorded two deadly accidents, which claimed 12 lives in the past six weeks.
He said the two accidents also resulted in the injury of dozens of people, mainly traders and called for professionalism on the road.
Mr Kumah said pedestrians also continued to be knocked down by fast-moving vehicles and asked stakeholders, especially driver unions and the National Road Safety Commission to help to address the situation.
« You marvel at the speed at which hiring cars particularly from Aflao run on the road, overtaking others at random and disregarding other road users », the Commander stated.
He said the Police was doing its bit in enforcing safety on the road, but without discipline on the part of the driver, only very little could be achieved in efforts at reducing road crashes.
