Accra, March 19, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a footballer and a driver’s mate for allegedly robbing a carpenter.
Majid Osei, footballer and Ebenezer Opoku, driver’s mate both pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
They are to re-appear on April 1.
Police Inspector Samuel Ahiabor told the Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that Mr Timothy Klutse, is the complainant in the case and a resident of Dansoman in Accra.
The accused persons also lived in Accra.
He said on March 9 this year at about 0300 hours, the complainant was going to board a vehicle to Ho when he was intercepted by the two accused persons at a traffic light in Dansoman.
The Prosecution said Osei and Opoku asked the complainant to surrender his X-tide cellular phone to them but he refused.
Police Inspector Ahiabor said they became furious and struck his forehead and stomach with a sharp object and forcibly took the phone.
He said the two were in an attempt to attack another person around the Awudome Cemetery when a police patrol team chanced on them and caused their arrest.
The prosecution said a search on them revealed Klutse’s X-tide mobile phone in addition to a pair of scissors.
Inspector Ahiabor said the suspects were handed over to the Odorkor Police and during investigations, the complainant was traced through his phone.
The two admitted in their cautioned statements that they committed the act. Based on this information they were arraigned.
