Two Hundred thousand cashew seedlings for farmers in Kwahu Afram Plains North

  25 Mars      51        Economie (20941),

Accra , March 24, GNA- Mr Philip Ebenezer Azidoku, the Kwahu Afram Plains North District Agriculture Director said his outfit had planned to raise and distribute to farmers this year 200,000 cashew seedlings in the district.

He said it was a way to promote the government’s Planting for Export and Rural Development Programme.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Donkorkrom, he said this year would see a massive increase and distribution of the cashew seedlings because more farmers were getting on board to ensure the success of the programme.

He said about 80,000 seedlings were raised for the farmers last year and 98 per cent of them, who benefited had their farms well maintained, making the plants to start bearing flowers after six months of Planting.

Mr Azidoku said long drought and bushfires were some of the challenges that some of the farmers faced last year and early part of this year and urged them to take advantage of the PERD programme to get registered in order to be supplied the cashew seedlings.

Mr Azidoku therefore called on investors to partner the Agricultural Department of the Afram Plains North District Assembly in selling and buying the cashew produce after harvest.

This, he explained would help farmers to produce on large scale to help create jobs for others, especially the youth in the area.
