Accra, June 25, GNA- Traders who sell on the shoulders of roads near Tema Community One market have appealed to the Tema Metropolitan Assembly to allow them to sell pending their relocation to a permanent place.
The traders who display their wares on the shoulders of the road and trade in fruits especially pineapple, mango, pawpaw, orange and avocado at affordable prices.
Sale of plantain and other foodstuffs was also done at the place popularly known as ‘kwasia dwaso’ until the TMA began clearing the traders occasionally, citing sanitation and safety issues.
Madam Abena Doe, one of the traders, on the street, said, “TMA should get them a better place to sell before they sack us from the roadside and forbid us not to sell here. We will always cooperate with them to make the city clean and safe.”
A tomatoes seller, Auntie Regina says, “ The TMA should tolerate us for a while. It will be difficult for me as a mother who pays school fees with other utility bills to cope without selling. »
The daily tickets which is worth GH1. 00 is too dear for us so the TMA should reduce it to 50 pesewas, she said.
The place is popular with late commuters and workers due to relatively cheap prices and convinence.
