Accra, July 21, GNA – Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, has advised personnel of the National Service Scheme (NSS) to take advantage of government’s flagship programme, « Rearing for food and jobs » after their service period to enhance  their livelihoods.
The Minister said government is aware of the unemployment situation in the country, hence the interventions to offer opportunity to young people and enhance their lots.
“I urged you all to explore these opportunities and create employment and wealth for yourselves, as you contribute your quota towards helping government to reduce the unemployment rate in the country,” he stated.
Dr Letsa said this in a speech read on his behalf at the launch of the annual National Service Week celebration, dubbed: “Rearing for food and jobs: The role of the national service personnel,” in Ho.
He advised the personnel to eschew acts of corruption and show high sense of leadership wherever they found themselves.
The Regional Minister also asked them to identify their weaknesses, build on their strengths and come out with innovative ideas for community development.
Mr Ambrose Entsiwah Junior, Volta Regional Director, National Service Scheme (NSS), described the theme for this year’s celebration as apt “considering the fact that the President launched such innovation to provide job opportunities for the youth, of which national service personnel are considered to be part and play a critical role to ensure its success”.
He said the week-long celebration is necessary because it signified the successful end of another year of mandatory service to the nation.
Mr Entsiwah said though there were occasional misunderstandings among personnel, the Volta Region did not record any incident of unrest during the period under review.
Madam Enyonam Amafuga, Volta Regional Director of Education, urged the personnel to be resolute as they marched on in the field of their choice and to “believe that you can become what you were created to become ».
The Regional Director of Education said government was not leaving any stone unturned in providing jobs, adding that « rearing for food and jobs » policy provided great prospects for the youth and urged them to take advantage of it.
