Accra, July 22, GNA – Stakeholders in Education have inspected a site earmarked for the construction of a Science, Technology, Engineering, Agriculture and Mathematics (STEAM) Centre in Ho.
The Centre, to be sited on the Mawuko Girls Senior High School (MAKOGISS) new site, will be a pilot project for the construction of 19 others across the country.
The facility will have laboratories and teaching and learning suites.
The initiative is to shore up teaching and learning of STEAM in second cycle schools.
Mr Joseph Kpangkpari, representative of RoboGroup Intelitek, the main contractors of the project told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the project, a prefabricated structure is a turn-key infrastructure from India, structurally designed in Turkey.
He said the project was expected to be executed in the next six to eight months after the base foundation had been completed, steel beams erected and fixed.
Mr Kpangkpari said consignments were expected to arrive this week for work to begin and that due to some fine-tuning, cost of the project could not be given immediately.
Mr Kofi Oduro Boating, Managing Director, Caf-Kompetitiv Limited, a Sub-contractor, said his scope of works included preparing the land and completing the sub-structure for the prefabs super-structure and expected the project to run steadily.
Mr Isaac A. Tettey, Volta Regional Economic Planning Officer, said the choice of the site was appropriate because supervision and other exigencies would be answered.
Other members of the team include, Mrs Angelica Attakey, Board Chairperson of MAKOGISS and Mrs Enestina Peniana, Headmistress of MAKOGISS, who are offering part of their 79 acre School land to accommodate the project.
The rest are; Mr Paul Sarpong, Project Engineer, ADK Consortium, Mr Bright Dey, Ghana Education Service Planning Officer, Mr Kofi Pi-Bansah, GES, and Mr Alfred Deletsu, Engineer, Regional Coordinating Council.
Dr Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, said the 20 STEAM project across the country was another great achievement by the Akufo-Addo-led government and hoped that science and technology would champion an aggressive socio-economic industrialisation of the country compared to the Asian tigers.
He said government was pursuing a policy that would change the narrative in the vocational and technical education and believed all would deliver the needed results for accelerated development.
