GREENVILLE, March 27 (LINA) – Sinoe County chapter of the Civil Society Network of Liberia in keeping with the national health protocol has kicked off door-to-door community awareness campaign in Greenville District, with plans to decentralize the awareness to the three districts in the county.

The campaign launch, according to Madam Weedor Smith, head of the network and County Coordinator of the National Institute for Public Opinion, will last for a period of 21 days and is aimed at joining forces with the County Health Team and the government of Liberia to help eradicate the coronavirus from Liberia.

« I think it is about time for all of us to do something in our own weak way; there are other places and people who do not have access to radio and newspaper. but we from the civil society background can help the health authorities and reach out to our people to provide some level of education, » Smith told LINA.

The Sinoe CSO official said while it’s true that there are some fianacial constraints facing the country, they as CSOs deem it necessary to intervene at this crucial time, noting that the exercise will cover Greenville, Butaw and Kpanyan districts in the county.

She called on citizens, especially those who are spreading false information about the coronavirus to desist, and urged the Sinoe County joint security to double up efforts in enforcing the law prescribed by the government and health authorities.

For his part, Dr. Jonathan Flomo, County Health Officer, welcomed and encouraged the idea that not only civil society groups should undertake sensitization, and called on every citizen to join the fight against the virus.

Flomo, who strongly believes that by applying all rules and regulations is the best way to prevent the Coronavirus disease from spreading in the county, further warned those who are misleading the public about the virus to stop, stressing that there is no suspected or positive case in Grand Kru County.

The Sinoe Civil Society Network is working with other partners in the county on several interventions ranging from human rights to women-related development issues, including those that matter to Sinoe and Liberia at large.
