Accra, Aug. 2, GNA- The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) says Bernice Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer brand is safe for use.

The statement issued and signed by Mrs Delese A. A. Darko, Chief Executive Officer,FDA, was a reaction to the alarm raised over the content of the product in video circulating on social media.

A viral video footage on social media suggested that the the Bernice alcohol based hand sanitizer brand contained a high quantity of acid.

In the said footage, a man was seen pouring the sanitizer on a piece of cloth which appeared to have suffered damage because of the product.

The FDA said as a follow up on the product, the Authority dispatched its market surveillance team to gather samples of the product from various locations.

The statement said samples were all tested and found to be compliant with Test Parameters for sanitizers.

The parameters tested included NET content, PH, alcohol content, visible impurities, and presence of Methanol.

The statement said the Bernice Alcohol-Based Hand Sanitizer “has passed all tests and as such is safe for use”.

According to the FDA, the incident in the said video footage had also been reported to the Police in Kasoa for further investigation.

Subsequently, the FDA had urged the public to check its official website and social media handles frequently for the updated list of all registered sanitizers in Ghana.
