GANTA, Aug. 8 (LINA) – Nimba County Superintendent Nelson Korquoi has dismissed claims that his recent meeting with Commissioners and Paramount Chiefs was meant to campaign for some individuals eying different positions in the upcoming Project Management Committee (PMC) election.

Speaking in an interview in Ganta recently, Mr. Korquoi indicated that as administrative head of the county, he has the right at any and all time to meet with local leaders whom, he described, as his « kitchen cabinet, » noting that his recent forum with the chiefs was just one of the meetings he has had with his team since his appointment as Superintendent of Nimba County.

Contrary to rumous circulating in the county that his recent meeting was meant to direct the decision of chiefs during the upcoming PMC election, Mr. Korquoi clarified that his meeting with the local leaders was intended to inform them about of President George Manneh Weah’s intention to contest the 2023 General and Presidential elections.

Supt. Korquoi’s clarity was in response to rumours and assertions circulating across the county that he held a “secret meeting” with District Commissioners and Paramount Chiefs who are highly anticipated to be delegates at this year’s County Council Sitting, which is less than a week away.

Notably amongst those holding such view is Nimba County Electoral District #2 Representative, Prince O.Tokpah, who in his usual verbose talking style, accused Superintendent Korquoi and County Inspector Bm Mack Gblinwon, of conducting secret meeting with the Commissioners and Paramount chiefs, introducing to them three individuals tipped to contest for the Chairman, Treasurer and Comptroller positions in the expected PMC election.

In his accusation, Representative Tokoah stated that the two top county officials presented L$25,000.00 to the chiefs and asked them to vote in favor of the three men, something he (Tokoah) stressed is least expected of leaders of the county such act has the tendency to spark confusion in the county.

But providing clarity on Rep. Tokpah’s accusation, Supt. Korquoi indicated that he gave the chiefs L$75,000.00 as transportation reimbursement since most of them had traveled from distant areas from Sanniquillie City for the meeting.

The Superintendent pointed out that those accusing him of lobbying for his interest in the ensuing PMC election are doing so out of hatred and mere envy.

He reminded his accusers that his Terms of Reference (ToR) gives him the right to hold meetings with his staff, including the Commissioners and Chiefs, at anytime he so deem necessary.
