SINJE TOWN, Aug. 26 (LINA) – The Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC) has presented farming tools to several farmers in its hallway in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County.

The Bea Mountain Hallway is a pathway in which the gold mining company is constructing a 16.5 kilometres road to connect Kinjor Town to N’blama.

Farming tools presented include cutlasses, shovels, diggers, rain boots and wheelbarrows.

The farmers also received crops compensation and cash donation from the Bea Mountain Mining Corporation.

Making the donation over the weekend in Tahn Town, Gola Konneh District, the BMMC Community Relations Manager, Henry Vincent, told the beneficiaries that the farming implements and cash donation was the company’s way of compensating locals whose farming activities were disrupted by the ongoing road construction in the area.

Mr. Vincent said while it is true that the road will benefit both the locals and the company, and so the company deems it necessary to compensate those locals that were affected by the road construction.

He added that the donation will help the affected people to continue their framing activities in other areas, noting that the locals heavily rely on farming for their sustenance.

The BMMC Manager assured that the company will continue to extend a helping hand to the people in the affected area and the county at large.

Mr. Vincent put the total cost of both the farming implements and cash donation at a little over US$16,000.

In remarks at the occasion, the Superintendent of Grand Cape Mount County, Aaron Vincent, lauded the BMMC for its continuous assistance to the county and its people.

Supt. Vincent, who described BMMC as the county’s strategic development partner, expressed his willingness to work with the mining company in all its development initiatives in the county.

He, at the same time, encouraged the beneficiaries to make maximum use of the farming implements to improve their lives.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Augustine Lumeh thanked the Bea Mountain Mining Corporation for the donation of the farming implements.

Mr. Lumeh said most of the beneficiaries were not expecting such a gesture from the company, noting that most times companies in the area do not consider compensating them with things that will be useful to them.

He said they are “very thankful” for the surprise package from the company.

Mr. Lumeh assured the company and the county leadership that the items presented will be used for the intended purpose.
