Santa Maria, Sep 17 (Inforpress) – The city of Santa Maria, in Sal, which should have been crowded since Friday, marking the 30th edition of the International Music Festival, is deserted, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which plagues the whole world.
Currently, the Santa Maria Beach Festival is among the largest festivals held in Cabo Verde, and is usually made up of an average of 12 musical performances, during two days.
As the story goes, it emerged from the popular initiative as a form of entertainment, without much preparation and, little by little, it started to gain dimension for what is known today.
At first, the objective was to promote the spirit of conviviality, the performances had a spontaneous character, however, in 1988 the City Hall of Sal decided to institutionalize the event, and it was in the September 15 of that year, on the Municipality Day and patron saint of the Parish of Sal, Nossa Senhora das Dores, in the well-known Pontão, where the first Santa Maria Beach Festival officially began.
