Praia, Oct 7 (Inforpress) – The director of the Department of Prevention and Control of Diseases from the Ministry of Health, Jorge Barreto, Monday called for greater care, especially in dealing with the elderly, in order to prevent them to be infected with COVID-19.
“We have noted that older people die the most. We think that these elderly people end up becoming infected and having COVID-19 due to the coexistence they have with younger people”, said Jorge Barreto, who spoke at the Ministry of Health usual press conference to take stock of the evolution of the pandemic in Cabo Verde.
The official believes that if young people really want to preserve the health and life of their elderly, grandparents or loved ones, they must have “a lot of attention” in complying with the preventive measures have been announced, because otherwise, in a carelessness, in a visit, there may be infection.
“The elderly person does not react so well and may happen to die (…)”, noted Jorge Barreto asking young people to be careful with their attitudes outside of the elderly home, because this behavior also ends up influencing infection or not . The country has 839 active infections, 5.524 recovered, 68 deaths and 2 transferred, making a cumulative total of 6.443 positive cases.
