Praia, Oct 16 (Inforpress) – RAMAO President Josefina Chantre today called on governments to take a different look at rural women, adding that sustainable and durable projects must be done to help them overcome crises.
Speaking to Inforpress on the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women to be observed today, the president of the Association of West African Women (RAMAO), Josefina Chantre, stated that on this day “there is no reason to celebrate”, but “there are reasons to sit and reflect”.
“This is the time to think about better strategies, to set up sustainable and durable projects, especially as alternatives to pests, such as the army worm (Spodoptera frugiperda) attacks Cabo Verde”, sated Josefina Chantre.
In addition to the situation aggravated by COVID-19, after almost four years of drought, women are living in a “chaotic” situation, she said, indicating that the island of Santo Antão, as an example, where the army worm (Spodoptera frugiperda) is “devouring everything and there is nothing to eat”.
