Praia, Dec 29 (Inforpress) – The Council of the Republic (CR), a political body for consultation with the President of the Republic (PR), meets today to discuss the next elections, the Presidency of the Republic said.
To decide on the dates of the two elections, the President of the Republic, Jorge Carlos Fonseca, has been listening to different entities and organizations, namely representatives from the National Election Commission (CNE) and the Directorate-General for Support to the Electoral Process (DGAPE) and political parties.
On the day of the local elections, on October 25, Jorge Carlos Fonseca had stated that he hopes on October 20, 2021, the day on which his term ends, the country will already have a new elected President, a calendar that will condition the scheduling of legislative elections.
The last legislative elections were held on March 20, 2016 and presidential elections were held on October 2, 2016. The dates for the two elections are the responsibility of the President of the Republic, after hearing the Council of the Republic, political parties and other entities.
