MONROVIA, Jan. 11 (LINA) – The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Bhofal Chambers, has underscored the need for collective efforts aimed at resetting the country’s economic agenda by revisiting some of the concession agreements and optimizing gains from the various sectors.

He also wants members of the legislature to prepare or enact laws in line with best practices and at the same time work with various institutions and nations to copy experiences for positive economic gains.

Speaking at the opening of the 4th Session of the 54th National Legislature on Monday at the Capitol Building in Monrovia, Speaker Chambers also admonished his colleagues to work with intelligence, character and a deep sense of patriotic consciousness.

On other measures intended to stabilize the national economy, Speaker Chambers recommends a compelling need to institute action-oriented frameworks or laws to address the network of hoarding.

“Knowing that hoarding, whether hoarding of commodities or hoarding of currency, can cause tragedies and spark painful economic instability and can create a cycle of speculation, inflation and self-fulfilling prophecies,” Speaker Chambers added.

With the inconvenience suffered regarding currency shortage, he however, called on his colleagues to focus in the direction of providing the requisite oversight so as to forestall any recurrence of same, adding that the 1986 Constitution of Liberia empowers the Legislature to authorize the issuance of currency and mint coins, among other things.

Meanwhile, Speaker Chambers has said that as direct Representatives of the people, it is important that members of the House of Representatives always put their people first by their actions.
