PLEEBO, Jan. 11 (LINA) – In fulfillment of President George Manneh Weah’s promise to mitigate the adverse economic impact of the Coronavirus on ordinary Liberians, the Government of Liberia has commenced the distribution of the COVID-19 stimulus package in Maryland County.

The exercise, which is being carried out by Caritas Cape Palmas, a Catholic NGO, commenced in Maryland’s provincial capital Harper on January 4, and will be extended to other parts of the county simultaneously.

The stimulus package, which contains several food items like rice, beans and oil, according to Caritas Cape Palmas Program Officer, Wiadi Bobo, will benefit about 25,952 selected households across the county.

The Liberia Institute for Statistics and Geo-Information Services (LISGIS), in late 2020 conducted a household registration as part of preparatory measures for the successful distribution of the government humanitarian aid to its citizens to reduce the hardship created by the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus in the country.

Of the total number, according to Bobo, each qualified household stands to benefit from two 25 kilogram bags of rice, ten kilograms of beans and one gallon of oil, among others.

He assured citizens that his institution will ensure the timely and fair distribution of the food ration.

In response, beneficiaries who spoke to the Liberia News Agency hailed President Weah and described the initiative as the first of its kind in many, many years.
