Pres. Weah Confident Of PAPD Vision; Dedicates LPRC Admin Bldg.

  21 Janvier      94        Politique (25166),

MONROVIA, Jan. 20 (LINA) – The Weah-led Government will on Friday January 22, clock exactly three years in power, following the landmark and famous victory in the  December 26, 2017  Runoff Presidential Election and subsequent inauguration on January 22, 2018.

Upon receiving an overwhelming mandate from the people of Liberia and having won the popular votes of 61.5 percent or14 out of 15 Counties, the Weah administration adopted a five-year development plan which runs from 2018 to 2023, referring to the plan as the “Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development (PAPD).”

The PAPD is a national agenda containing four pillars which are -Power to the people; Economy and Job Creation; Sustaining the Peace as well as Governance and Transparency.

With three years into his leadership, President Weah has guaranteed the people of Liberia of his unwavering commitment to implement the National Agenda to the fullest.

“We have our vision, and we will fulfill our mission. Our vision is fully set out and captured in the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development, and our mission is to fulfill that vision by development,” the Liberian leader assured his compatriots.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony of the newly-constructed Administrative Building at the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) on Bushrod Island in Monrovia, the Liberian leader emphasized that the Government will complete the mission of the PAPD by continuing to give priority to infrastructural development.

“Today, we are here once again to witness another important milestone in the history of this country– the dedication of the very first purpose-built Administrative Building of the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company since its establishment more than 40 years ago,” President Weah stated.

He recalled that the dedication of the facility at LPRC follows closely his recent dedication of the first Administrative Building of the National Port Authority, which had never before had the benefit of being headquartered in a modern office building since the Freeport was built almost 75 years ago.

He highlighted that his Administration finds it necessary to implement infrastructural projects on ground that Liberia, as the oldest independent country in Africa, has sadly lacked such much-needed facilities.

“Under the Pro-Poor Agenda, it is our intention that every Government Ministry, Agency, or Public Corporation must have their own office building, rather than paying exorbitant lease payments to landlords.  These rental fees could otherwise be saved and better utilized to build schools or clinics or other projects which could better serve our people,” the Liberian leader disclosed.

Weah explained that over the long term, these rental payments could equal or exceed the cost of constructing “our own government buildings.”

He extolled the Management and staff of the LPRC for taking the initiative to construct an Administrative Building and modernize some of the other facilities which are used in their operation.

“I particularly want to mention the Managing Director, Ms. Marie Urey Coleman, who completed the project, and her immediate predecessor, Ms. Nyemade Pearson, who started the project,” the President cited.

According to him, it is worthy to note that these two female administrators were appointed by his Administration, and they have justified their preference by bringing a high level of professionalism, energy, and innovation to the management of the LPRC.

“I would also like to appreciate the efforts of previous Managing Directors and others for the contributions they may have made to this project,” President Weah emphasized.

He admonished the Management and Staff of LPRC to take good care of the building through proper maintenance, so that the facility continues to serve the entity into the future.

Weah disclosed that he has noted with interest the Status Report on the rehabilitation of the storage tanks and other facilities, citing, “Although this is still a work-in-progress, I want to encourage you to complete the job, and I look forward to being invited back soon to dedicate the completed facility.”

“And so, Ladies and Gentlemen, here is the building.  Although it speaks for itself, there are still those who say that they cannot see it.  Well, it is often said that none are as blind as those who do not wish to see.  Even lights in the city, people say they cannot see the light.  So will they see a building?” the Liberian leader wondered.

However, the Commander in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Liberia stated that his Government is not concerned by such tactics employed by its critics.

He maintained that whatever his Government does is squarely for the greater good of the country and its people and not to accumulate praises.
