Accra, Feb. 1, GNA— The 2021 national finals of “The Spelling Bee” competition is scheduled for February 6, 2021, to celebrate the commitment, trust, and resilience of spellers, parents, guardians, and sponsors.
“The unpredictable nature of Covid-19 has destabilized many organisations and events, including, ‘The Spelling Bee.’
“However, the resilience of our spellers, parents, guardians, and our sponsors has proven to us that our work, which began 13 years ago, has had and continues to have a substantial impact on the education of the Ghanaian child.
That is why we are proud to announce that The Spelling Bee National Finals will be held on February 6, 2021, as scheduled.”
“Their faith in us empowered us with the mandate to continue with our vision of making co-curricular activities a common factor in our educational experience.
As we draw nearer to The Spelling Bee 2021 National Finals, we would like to use this year’s edition to celebrate our Spellers’ confidence and trust as they have justified their inclusion since March 2020,” a statement signed by Madam Eugenia Tachie-Menson, Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Young Educators Foundation, organizers of “The Spelling Bee” Ghana, said.
It said the event would be held behind closed doors with only spellers, parents, and guardians in attendance with strict adherence to COVID-19 preventive measures.
The statement said parents would, however, show their support in a separate room at the same venue to ensure the safety of all in attendance.
The statement extended appreciations to all who made this year’s event a success, despite the low turnout, due to the pandemic.
“Indeed, time without number, The Spelling Bee has proven that it’s more than just Spelling. It is impacting the lives of our future generation and inspiring them to explore the world of words and reading.
“This year’s national finals promise to be one of our most exciting editions to look out for, as we salute our 60 Finalists. Due to their commendable fidelity and resilience, we’ve beefed-up the prizes for Spellers and schools participating in The Spelling Bee National Finals with our sponsors’ support.”
“For 13 years, The Spelling Bee has been a strong pillar promoting the love of words, but we couldn’t have done this without our sponsors’ support. The Spelling Bee 2021 National Finals is a celebration of all those who continue to support us throughout our journey of making experiential education part and parcel of Ghana’s education system,” it said.
The statement said the competition would be shown live on Citi TV on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at 1300 hours, and encouraged citizens to follow live updates of the event on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
“The 2021 winner has the chance to appear on the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the United States of America to represent Ghana, the only African country that continues to participate in this International Competition. We’re grateful to you and continue to count on your support as we wrap up this year’s championship,” it said.
Other prizes include products and souvenirs from sponsors and partners.
