Zakat Sadaqa Trust Fund awards 25 personalities in Western Region

   Takoradi (W/R), Feb, 28, GNA-Twenty-Five persons, including traders, dressmakers, students and others with health-related problems in the Western Region, have benefitted from the Zakat and Sadaqa Trust Fund of Ghana.

Beneficiaries of the fund from the Islamic communities in the Western Region received cash awards between 400 and 3,000 cedis for sewing machines, trading, educational and health support.
In a keynote address at the awards ceremony, the Western Regional Board Chairman, Steering Committee of Zakat and Sadaqa Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Jamil Balla, said the fund was established in 2010 to enable Muslim workers to observe the most neglected pillar of Islam-Zakat.
He said the fund ensured that Muslim students were enrolled in schools and to support the educational mobility of students with scholarships to study abroad.
The fund also caters for economic issues affecting the Muslim community and the propagation of Islam.
Alhaji Kamil Balla lauded institutions such as the Ghana Police Service (GPS) and Teachers Fund for supporting the fund.
However, he said the fund needed more assistance from public-spirited organizations to advance the cause of health, education and economic empowerment.
He appealed to the Islamic community and other members of society to support the fund grow to benefit many more people.
The Chief Imam of the Airforce, Flying Officer Musha Roundine Maiga, a supporter of the fund, said he has asked all-new military recruits to donate to the Zakat fund.
He entreated the Islamic communities and society to give out part of what Allah had given to them.
The Chief Imam said, « Allah will not change the condition of the people till the people change their attitude ».
