Praia, Oct 15 (Inforpress) – The presidential elections on Sunday, 17th, will be followed by 104 international observers, some of them are already on the ground, announced, in Praia, the president of the National Election Commission (CNE), Maria do Rosário Gonçalves.
According to the head of the highest electoral administration body, observers from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and three others from the United States of America are in Cabo Verde. These elections are not accompanied by observers from the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP).
The president of the CNE announced to the press, on the sidelines of the briefing she gave this Thursday with international election observers who are already in the country to follow the election on Sunday.
“Between 2010 and today, we have already held many elections and in the various reports we have verified, namely social and political phenomena that we have not been able to fit into the electoral law properly,” said Maria do Rosário Gonçalves, adding that we note the need for a revision of the current Electoral Code, which dates back to 1999, although it has undergone “some specific changes”, the last one happened 11 years ago.
