VOINJAMA, April 28 (LINA) – In a bid to build the capacity of local small tree crops farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) with funding from the International Fund for Agriculture (IFA) five-year Farmers Fees Program, has trained more than 30 local small tree crops farmers in Lofa County.
The MOA and IFA program is targeting over 10,000 small Tree Crops Farmers in Lofa County whose tree crops were affected by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Liberia.
The 14-day MOA and IFA capacity-building training, which ended on Saturday, April 24, in Lawalazu Town, upper Workor Clan in Voinjama District, brought together about 33 local small Tree Crops Farmers, including MOA and IFA officers and coordinators from Lofa County’s seven political and administrative districts.
The participants were drawn from, Zorzor, Voinjama, Quadou Gboni, Kolahun, Foya, Vahun and Salayea Districts.
At the end of the training, small tree crop farmers were encouraged to support government’s agriculture program in order to boost agricultural activities in Liberia.
In remarks, the farmers lauded government and donor partners through the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and IFA for the capacity training and support.
They outlined several challenges and difficulties they are going through, including deplorable farm-to-market roads, lack of storage facilities and farming implements.
The farmers, however, expressed their commitment to working with the Government and donor partners in achieving agricultural and economic growth and development in not only Lofa County but Liberia as a whole.
