The Le51, 000 is now Le51m in the old notes, a sum that will keep Fatu in Business, and encourage her to do more.
The handing over ceremony took place last Thursday at Orange Sierra Leone headquaters in Freetown attended by the participants, other traders and the company officials.
In all, the company has spent Le300, 000 (three thousand Leones) on the 12 women who took part in the pageant as most  also benefitted.
The runners-up, Fatu Kamara of Aberdeen got Le51, 000 (fifty-thousand Leones), Kadiatu Kargbo from Lumley Street got Le31, 000 (thirty-one thousand Leones)    SerayJanneh from Sewa Ground Market received  Le21,000 (twenty-one thousand Leones).
For other contestants, each bagged Le6, 000 (six thousand Leones), and Le5, 000 (five thousand Leones) went to every market participated in the competition.
Orange Sierra Leone has also pledged to undertake projects for the wining markets, and will soon embark on the pavement of the facilities as well as provide water for the women.
The prizes are also part of Orange Sierra Leone’s empowerment scheme, and motivation for other women.
Speaking to participants at the handing over ceremony, the Product Communication Officer Orange Sierra Leone,   Martha Sumaila said the contest started in May this year with a particular focus on women.
A Platform for women in the market, she went on, should be created so that they can contribute to national development adding that it is a move for inclusiveness.
“As a company, we always sound very clear that women are very critical to development. They should not be left alone, and that is the reason we target the women in various markets across Freetown and Waterloo environs,” Sumaila told the audience.
She further informed the audience that when Orange Sierra Leone started the move, there were much difficulties to organise women in various market centres.
But, with their convincing power, women finally trusted the process, and that through the company’s ability and team work, the ‘Miss MakitUman’ pageant became successful.
The Chairlady of the Aberdeen Market, Mariatu Kargbo expressed appreciation to Orange Sierra Leone for organising such a wonderful and interactive beauty pageant.
She describes Orange Sierra Leone as a company that cares for women in the market places adding that the pageant has showcased them locally and internationally.
The chairlady also stated that they were skeptical and doubtful when the process started, but the company officials’ perseverance gave them unyielding hope.
She appealed to the company to continue in this  direction of increasing awareness of women in deprived markets to instill in them a sense of belonging.
“We have been neglected but through the leadership of Orange Sierra Leone, we are now recognising that we are part of the society,”  she said.
Bombay Market Chairlady, Isha Mansaray similarly   expressed gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone for the privileged accorded them.
Women in the market centres, she said, were not recognised over the years, and that they would work with the company which is committed to helping them.
Isha appealed to the company to expand their good will to more market centres across the country to ease women’s business challenges.
The winner of the Beauty Pageant ‘Miss MakitUman,’ Fatu Kamara was thrilled for words, and thanked the company.
“I never dream of this in my life; I was sick when I was called upon to go for the contest. I was doubtful, and today I am a winner with laudable star prize. thank you Orange and Management,” she registered her thanks.
She also appealed to his fellow contestants who are not fortunate to win to keep up the momentum adding that with Orange Sierra Leone all things will be possible.
“Orange Sierra Leone is a trusted Company, I implore every Sierra Leonean to have Orange Sim Card as many opportunities will definitely come their way some day” Fatu encouraged colleague traders.
Orange Sierra Leone, she says, is a woman-friendly company that has stood the test of time for many years in Sierra Leone.
The company has track record of empowering vulnerable women and the less privileged in the country.
