Kojo Addai (Bitre), Dec. 7, GNA – Mr Abraham Kyenkyehene, a 51-year-old farmer from Goaso has been adjudged the Overall Best Farmer in the Asunafo North Municipality.
Mr Kyenkyehene, who was among 35 farmers and fishers awarded at the 35th Farmers Day celebration held at Kojo Addai, near Mim, received a tricycle and some agriculture inputs and a certificate.
Speaking at the function held on the theme: “Enhancing Small-Scale Agriculture Towards Agribusiness Development,” Mr Yaw Osei-Boahen, the Asunafo Municipal Chief Executive, said the toils of those gallant farmers underpinned government’s flagship programmes of Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, and Rearing for Food and Jobs.
Those were bold initiatives of the Government to reposition agriculture as the cornerstone of nation-building, he said.
He commended the award winners for their zeal, hard work, and numerous sacrifices, and was optimistic that come next year their colleagues who worked hard would be rewarded.
Oseadeeyo Agyapong Baidoo Brobbey, the Gyaasehene of the Mim Traditional Council, who chaired the function, commended the Government for the bold step to institute a Farmers’ Pension Scheme.
