Agona West Assembly and NGOs undertake free health screening

Nyakrom, June 16, GNA – The Agona West Municipal Assembly in collaboration with three Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) from United States of America (USA) have organised free dental health screening for school children and adults at Nyakrom in the Central Region.
The NGOs are Rotary Club of Texas, Healing Heard Hands from US, and Accra West Rotary Club.
A team of 10 Dentists from US and medical doctors and other paramedical staffs from some Ghanaian hospitals performed the screening.
A total of 1,800 school children and 400 adults were screened of dental and other health problems such as; diabetes, blood pressure, eyes among others.
Mr Kojo Frempong, a Ghanaian and leader of the medical team from the US speaking with journalists said the free health screening formed part of the NGOs’ social and corporate responsibilities to Africa, especially Ghana.
He said they undertook the exercise in various districts and municipalities of the country for over 10 years and covered Ashanti, Bono, Eastern, Central and Greater Accra Regions.
Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West expressed gratitude to the medical team from the US and their Ghanaian counterpart for their kind gesture in undertaking the free health screening.
She said the Assembly would continue to build strong relationship with the NGOs and the Ghanaian team for periodic organisation of the exercise to improve the health of the people.
Mrs Assan commended Mr Kojo Frempong, the Ghanaian team leader for his laudable role in the screening.
The school children who took part in the screening were given toothpastes, toothbrushes, exercise books, pencils, and used cloths as part of the package of the exercise.
