Accra, Aug 10, GNA- The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council in the Eastern Region has called on state authorities to initiate probe into all activities of Bright Senior High School in Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North District of the region.
The Council also called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the school’s proprietor, Mr Bright Amponsah over numerous misconduct.
A statement issued by the Council and signed by D.M. Ofori-Atta, State Secretary and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said it was worried over the conduct of Mr Amponsah and for that matter the school over the past decade.
The statement was provoked by the incident of alleged examination fraud in direct relation to the assault of Mr Gyan Mensah, an official of the West African Examination Council and Damolie Emmanuel Pacom, a Daily Graphic Reporter, in the ongoing West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Council alleged that the proprietor had over the decade engaged in what it called an « ultra-commercial and profiteering aims », which the Council said ran against the established interest of the educational policy and integrity of public examination.
« Also to the above, it has been noted that Bright SHS in terms of admission process and curriculum is in violation of all the protocols and regulatory measures of the Ghana Education Service. This point is proven without doubt, » the statement said.
It therefore called for an immediate closure of the school to avert further exploitation and breach of established regulations.
« The Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council is most concerned with the fact of the abuse and degradation of its young mind, and regrettably is unable to tolerate this situation.
« The Council finds the liberal attitude of public authorities on this matter as radical deviation from responsible attitude in terms of enforcement of public policy, » it added.
The Council assured authorities of its readiness to assist in the rehabilitation of affected students to ensure that they were not denied their rights to education and better future.
