AMA boss endorses « Fist of Fury » Boxing League & Pro Fight Championships

Accra, Sept. 6, GNA – Mr. Mohammed Adjei Sowah, Chief Executive Officer of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has endorsed the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for its decision to bring back the boxing League.
Mr. Adjei Sowah, promised to give the league the necessary support and later donated boxing equipment to some selected boxing gyms.
He said this, when Mr. Peter Zwennes, President of GBA and other officials of the newly inaugurated National Juvenile Boxing Committee called on him at his new office at Kimbu in the heart of the city.
He added that, the Boxing League would change lives in and around the fight venue and gyms.
Mr. Zwennes noted that the league is a welcome opportunity for boxers and gyms in the country.
He expressed the hope that, the return of the league would see boxers, who hitherto stayed a whole year without bouts following lack of promotions, fighting practically every two weeks to keep them in top shape.
According to Mr. Zwenes, « the boxing league was staged some years ago with considerable level of success, but fizzled out due to financial constraints; thankfully, some benevolent organizations- principally, GNPC our headline sponsors, ADB and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), have come to our aid to resurrect the league ».
He added « It would be a three-tier segment-juvenile, amateur and professional title fight and it would span a period of 13 months- 26 of these tournaments; twice every month, starting September 28, at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
« Boxing ranks tops when it comes to laurels; I mean right from the days of D.K. Poison and Azumah Nelson, through Nana Yaw Konadu, Isaac Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Clottey, Emmanuel Tagoe and our latest sensation Isaac Dogboe; we have always been putting this country on the world map.

« We expect the authorities to support this event and so we narrowed it on to the Accra Mayor particularly because of his constituency, as he presides over Central Accra-Bukom, James Town area where our boxers and champions hail from.
« The league would serve as a form of employment and provide an opportunity for them to advance in life and showcase their talents – the gyms would also have work to do, » he added.
The boing league is coming with other attractions like a Fashion Show, Music Extravaganza and Food Court, showcasing Ghana’s best meals like Kenkey, Kelewele, Jollof, Rice and others.
Top local musicians would be exposed in this venture with former GBA President Moses Foh Amoaning as the Marketing and Technical Consultant.
