Assin Fosu (C/R), April 10, GNA – The Assin Central Municipal Assembly has instituted a Covid-19 « Health Service Fund » to locally raise funds to contain the pandemic in the Municipality.
Members of the Fund, to be managed by the Municipal Public Health Emergency Committee, consists of several stakeholders, and it is chaired by Mr Nicholas Fiifi Baako, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).
It will receive public contributions to improve the lives of the vulnerable who may be worst hit by the pandemic, sustain public sensitisation and support frontline health workers with the right motivation and to support their work.
Outdooring the Fund, Mr. Baako, underscored the need for government to be supported in every way possible to help win the fight against the disease.
He personally donated GH¢1,000.00 as seed capital and called on all residents in the Municipality and beyond to ceaselessly support in kind and cash.
Immediately after the launch, the Methodist Church of Ghana, Assin Fosu Diocese, donated GH¢3,000.00 and pledged to court more support from other Dioceses to combat the spread of the virus.
Making the presentation on behalf of the Church, Right Reverend Samuel Mensah, Fosu Diocesan Bishop of the Church, said the gesture was aimed at complementing government’s efforts to cater for the needy and the vulnerable.
“We recognize the need to help fortify the capabilities of our public institutions so they can undertake mass testing and other public health measures to minimize the risks and impacts associated with COVID -19.”
“Health and safety of our people and nearby communities takes precedence above all else,” he said, and noted that “we hope our contributions will significantly help us win the fight against COVID-19”.
He entreated all religious organizations to encourage their members to endeavour to observe all the appropriate protocols to curb the spread of the virus.
The Diocesan Bishop encouraged infected persons not to fear any form of stigma, but avail themselves for testing and treatment.
He advocated for supporters of the Fund to donate through the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), Health Service Fund accounts number 3021000045157201 or mobile money account 0596526353.
The MCE and officials of the GHS pledged to put the money to good use, devoid of any political, ethnic or religious considerations in its disbursement.
He urged Ghanaians to adhere to the lockdown announced by the President and follow precautionary guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation and the GHS.
