Accra, Nov. 04, GNA – The national female under 17 team, the Black Maidens have set their eyes on reaching the finals of the upcoming Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) U-17 World Cup in Uruguay.

The Black Maidens have currently pitched camp in Sao Paulo, Brazil in preparations ahead of the competition which kick starts from November 13 – December 1.

Coach of the side, Evans Adotey in an interview from their training camp said, his aim was to better the bronze medal achievement set by the team in Azerbaijan in 2012.

« In the last edition we got to the knockout stage and four years later, we got to the knockout stage as well, so we are looking at the finals this time, » Coach Adotey said.

« Looking back as far as 2012, we won bronze and I was then assistant to Didi Dramani and this time around I have set myself a target that we go beyond the success we in 2012, but first we have to take it match after match. »

He said the team was shaping up well for the competition with no serious injury in camp, a situation he said they were happy with.

Ghana is in Group A with host nation Uruguay, New Zealand and Finland. The team won their first friendly game by 4-0 against America FC, a female local side in Sao Paulo on Saturday, November 3 and would play in their next friendly against fellow African participants Cameroon on Tuesday.
