Accra, June 5, GNA- The Black Maidens of Ghana will miss this year’s Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Under-17 Women’s World Cup tournament in India after being defeated by Morocco 4-2 on penalties.

The Maidens defeated the Moroccans 2-0 in the first leg and were sure of a positive result in the last hurdle to seal their qualification but failed to go past the North Africans.

Both sides were solid in their game play as the home side had an upper hand on the visitors, holding their midfield play with their long passes.

The Ghanaians conceded an early 15th minute goal in the first half of the game.

Despite missing some key players including goalkeeper Deborah Brown, Rose Boakyewaa, Magdalene Awuni and Faiza to testing positive to Covid-19, the Maidens held on to their usual game play as they cemented the defense with some solid clearances.

Coach Baba Nuhu’s side held on till the centre referee brought the first half of the game to a close.

Morocco came into the second half much stronger as they increased the woes of the visitors to 2-0 in the 46th minute.

It was a tough one for the Maidens to handle, but they were able to hold the game to penalties after which they lost 4-2 to the Moroccans.

The Black Maidens of Ghana beat the likes of Senegal and Guinea to reach the final stage of the qualifiers.

The Black Maidens have so far made six appearances at the World Cup,2008, 2010, 2012, 2014,2016 and 2018.

The 2022 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup tournament would come off from October 11-30 in India.
