Nova Sintra, Sep 3 (Inforpress) – Farmers from Brava state they are apprehensive and fear that the armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and locusts pests will devastate the crops of corn and beans they consider to be “on the right track”.
In a round made by Inforpress, at each “corner” farmers are making their first weeding and in some cases they are already in the second weeding. The opinion that the agricultural year “promises” is unanimous, taking into account the “frequently and in sufficient quantity” rainfall.
Luís Mendes is a farmer from Nova Sintra, who makes plantations in both rainfed and irrigated fields and, at this point, considered that his corn plantation is at a “very advanced” level, because the land is “very wet”. The only concern among farmers from Nova Sintra is the pest that is devastating their plantations at an “uncontrollable pace”.
Farmers in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte, in addition to the armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) pest, state they are concerned with the plague of locusts, which, although it has not yet reached the plantations, are already visible on the slopes.
