Accra, Feb.12, GNA – Mrs Nuhu Hahmatu, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), has entreated the general public to respect each other?s rights for peaceful co-existence in the society.
She stated that the populace could only live to sustain peace in the communities and the country in general if each other?s rights were respected and valued, particularly between married couples and among parties in other social contracts.
Mrs Hahmatu gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday in Sunyani and appealed to couples to endeavour to sustain their marriages to protect the future of their children.
She expressed regret that children from broken homes always become a burden on society and, therefore, become irresponsible adults because of the difficulties they experience in life.
Meanwhile Mrs Hahmatu announced that her outfit recorded total reported cases of 2,761 with the highest being property right cases in 2018.
The office could not make available the figures for 2017 because of computer-related challenges, she said.
The cases comprised property right; 675, children?s right; 610, women?s right 521, economic and social right, 503, civil and political right, 103, administrative and justice, 21 and corruption three.
Mrs Hahmatu announced that 2,301 of the cases were settled whilst 460 were still pending and mentioned inadequate funding and staff as well as limited office accommodation as some of the regional office?s major challenges.
She said Brong-Ahafo had only 12 offices and hinted that plans were underway to set up offices in all the municipalities and districts in the region.
