Accra, Nov. 3, GNA – Civil servants have been reminded that hard, diligence and commitment are key to a successful career.

Nana Kwesi Agyekum Dwamena, the Head of Civil Service, gave the admonition on Friday during the induction of 500 new staff into the civil service.

He reminded civil servants that their job was to serve the people and the Government of the day; stating that « serve diligently, serve with excellence and serve with loyalty ».

Nana Dwamena said the Civil Servant was supposed to render an unalloyed service to the Government of the day.

He urged the new entrants, who were selected through rigorous processes to wear their badge with honour, dignity and integrity.

The Head of Civil Service also admonished them to eschew lateness and procrastination.

He said for the first time in 15 years, the government had released over four million Cedis for the promotion of civil servants.

He said for some of the civil servants, their promotion could only take place after they have had a scheme of work training.

Nana Dwamena said there were about 6,500 civil servants, whose promotion were outstanding; of which they had already trained 3,000.

He said the training and the promotion programme were still ongoing; declaring that « that would serve as an incentive to be a motivation for people to also perform ».

Justice Rose Constance Owusu, a retired Supreme Court Judge and Chairperson of the Civil Service Council, administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new entrants.

Madam Deborah N. A. Ankrah, a representative of the inductee, said the week-long training programme had adequately prepared them for the task ahead.
