Accra, Feb. 06, GNA- Veteran coach Kennedy Botchway, has been appointed as the new head coach of George Ofori (G.O) Sports Academy, Avatime and Avatime FC – a lower division side in the Volta Region.
Coach Botchway, has been tasked to identify and nurture young talents for both teams.
Coach Botchway, who was the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) development football coach for Eastern and Volta region of Ghana, was also a coach of Kpando Heart of Lions, a former premier League side.
Mr. George Ofori, the founder and owner of both clubs and also the chairman of Volta Regional Juvenile Club Owners Association of Ghana (JUCOAG), said the appointment of coach Botchway, was very timely, considering his enormous experience with many clubs in and outside Ghana.
« Having coached in Benin, Liberia and Ghana, we have come to appreciate his contribution to the development of talents and it was time we brought him on board to help train and also encourage boys in the Volta Region to combine football and school.
« The Academy has selected talented boys all over the Region and given them education in school alongside their talents, as well as projecting the culture of Avatime Bianca, » he said.
The coach, who was introduced to people of Avatime Biakpa, expressed his readiness to help JUCOAG in the region, with his experience as Mr. Ofori.
He asked the people of Avatime and its environs to come on board to support the teams since that is the only team in the area.
Mr. Botchway, also expressed satisfaction over the job given him and pledged his support in nurturing talents in the region.
