Accra, June 27, GNA – Coach Ofori Asare, head coach of the national amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers, has completed a training course for over 50 boxing coaches in India.
Coach Asare, who doubles as an Instructor for International Boxing Association (AIBA) was in India on the tickets of AIBA and the Indian Sports Authority.
The course, which ended on June 24, saw the coaches going through the fundamentals of the current rules and regulations guiding the sport.
The experienced trainer who has coached many Ghanaian boxers to the world level and won many medals, said in an interview with the GNA Sports, that though he went there to teach, he had also learnt a lot from the culture and behavior of Indians.
« I am very happy with the experience and exposure. It was a good platform for sharing knowledge, » he added.
« Ghana still has many potential world champions, as the likes of Bastie Samir, Patrick Ayi, Patrick Allotey, Richard Commey, Duke Micah, George Ashie, Isaac Sackey and others in addition to WBO Champion, Isaac Dogboe in the professional ranks are possible candidates for greater glories.
« The government must pump in more resources to attract local boxers who can participate in international competitions and win laurels for Ghana, » he added.
The 2017 SWAG award winner for Dedication and Valour called for more collaboration with India in sports and other sectors to develop both nations.
