COVID-19: Ghana’s active cases rise to 6,411, death toll now 464

Accra, Feb. 08, GNA- Ghana’s COVID-19 active cases Monday hit 6,411, following the confirmation of 765 new infections across the country, according to the latest update from the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
This comes barely 24 hours after the country’s health management body had announced 722 new cases on Sunday, February 7, 2021 which pushed the active cases to 6,352.
Additionally, seven more persons have succumbed to the virus, raising the death toll to 464 from a previous 457.
The new infections, the GHS said, are from tests conducted as at February 04, 2021.
The latest update further disclosed that nearly 700 more people (699) have also recovered, bringing the total of clinical recoveries and discharge to 64,658.
Currently, 112 of the active cases, it said, were severe, with 32 in critical condition. These cases are being managed in treatment sites, isolation centers across the country, while some were under home management, the GHS said.
Ghana has so far recorded a total of 71,533 cases of the virus since it confirmed its first two cases in March 2020.
Out of the total confirmed cases, 26,588 were from the General Surveillance; 43,796 cases from the Enhanced Contact Tracing, while 1,149 have been recorded from international travelers disembarking at the Kotoka International Airport since it was reopened on September 1, 2020, the update stated.
A total of 805,652 tests have also been conducted. Out of this, 249,007 are from routine surveillance, 400,882 from contact tracing, and 155,763 from international travelers arriving through the Kotoka International Airport.
The positivity rate is 8.9 per cent.
Currently, all sixteen regions have an active case.
The Greater Accra Region remains the hotspot for the virus in the country, accounting for more than 50 per cent (3,483) of active cases and with a cumulative case count of 42,010.
Ashanti Region has 1,067 active cases, while its case count now stands at 12,935, followed by the Western Region with 420 active cases and cumulative cases of 3,878.
Others are: Eastern Region has 196 active cases, cumulative cases is 3,046; Central Region with 258 active case count, total cases now 2,458; Volta Region, 213 active cases, total cases stands at 1,092; Bono East Region with 40 active cases and 845 case count and Northern Region has active case count of 151 active cases and cumulative cases of 802.

The rest are:
Upper East Region – 155 active cases, 755 case tally
Western North Region – 42 active cases, 729 cumulative cases
Bono Region- 35 active cases, 694 cumulative cases
Ahafo Region- 18 active cases and 563 cumulative cases
Oti Region- Six active cases and 250 cumulative cases
Upper West Region – 68 active cases and 225 cumulative cases
Savannah Region – Two active case, 68 cumulative cases
North East Region – Nine active cases, 34 cumulative cases
Also, there are 248 active cases from international travelers (KIA)
