COVID-19: UBA Ghana supports COVID-19 fight with 350,000 dollars

Accra, March 30, GNA – The Management of United Bank for Africa (UBA) has donated 350,000 dollars to government to support the fight against the novel COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana.

Mr Kwamena Bartels, a Non-Executive Director of UBA Ghana, during the presentation, commended the leadership shown by the President and all the measures in place by the Government to help contain the spread of the disease and protect the citizenry.

Mr Bartels, accompanied by the Country Managing Director, Mr Isong Udom, said: “UBA is moved by the actions of the Government and is hereby donating a total amount of US$350,000, out of which US$75,000 has already been donated through the Ghana Association of Bankers (GAB).”

« The Bank is committed to supporting in critical moments and we are not only interested in profit but to also help our people when the need arises, » he added.

Mr Udom, on his part, said the UBA was committed to supporting the nation during those challenging times.

“UBA Plc (our parent company) has earmarked an amount of US$14million to support the fight against the pandemic in Africa as a Corporate Social Responsibility.”

The Chief of Staff, Mrs Frema Akosua Osei Opare, commended the Bank for the support and said: “The Coronavirus pandemic presents a worrying phenomenon, which has necessitated the President to make some tough decisions…”

“…But which has been received well by all including church leaders, market traders, and transporters among others to support the actions put in place by the President.”

The Chief of Staff said the donation would go a long way to support the purchase of necessary materials and logistics to support the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

She expressed gratitude to management of the Bank for the support not only to Ghana but the rest of Africa.
