Dennis Abugri to succeed Azonko as CLOGSAG National President

Accra, Jan.5, GNA-The Auditorium 900 hall of the University of Cape Coast echoed with sounds of ‘change’ when the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana ( CLOGSAG ) commenced their 13th Quadrennial National Delegates’ Congress.

The thunderous sounds echoed speaker after speaker in the congress.

The 627 delegates from the 10 regions besieged the UCC campus for the Congress from Wednesday, January 2 to Sunday January 6, 2019 and would among other activities elect national officers to steer the affairs of the Association for a four-year term.

The delegates kept shouting ‘change, change’ to signify that they were set to change the old executives.

The five-day congress is being held on the theme « neutrality Within the Civil and Local Government Service ».

Inquiries made by the GNA on Friday indicated that, Mr Dennis Abugri Amenga, an astute Agriculturist and reputable member of the Association was likely to be elected as the next National President of the Labour Union.

Mr Abugri Amenga, the former Brong Ahafo (BA) Regional Chairman of CLOGSAG lost narrowly to the out-going National President, Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko in the last election held in the same venue barely four years ago.

The former BA chairman served the Association in various capacities at the district, regional and national levels andis being contested by Mr Daniel Nkrumah, an Administrator.

It is certain that the severe clamour for change in the leadership of the Association was the reason for the predicted victory for the man most of the delegates believed represented their voices alongside his leadership prowess.

He holds a MSc Agriculture from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology will serve for only four years when elected to the highest office of the Association as he would retire from active service in 2024.

Other candidates likely to be endorsed by delegates include; Mr Emmanuel Acquah, Organiser and Trustee duo of Messrs Ernest Tagoe and Henry Asomah.

Madam Frema Osei Opare, Chief of staff who addressed the delegates on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo reminded them that as public servants, they must be neutral and never let their political persuasions undermine their performance.
