SLENA, 24th March, 2022 – As part of activities of a week-long study tour in Egypt, Deputy Foreign Minister, Ms. Mamadi Gobeh Kamara and her team has met with Ambassador Soha Gendi, Assistant Foreign Minister for African Organizations (APRM, COMESA, CEN-SAD).

In her remarks, Ms. Gobeh Kamara noted the long standing and fruitful diplomatic relations and high level of cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels between the two countries. She informed Mdm. Gendi that Egypt was amongst few countries in Africa that operated its Embassy in Sierra Leone during the war crisis. This she went on, speaks to the level of great relationship that Sierra Leone has and continue to enjoy with Egypt. She thanked Mdm. Soha for her country’s support of Sierra Leone’s bid for a seat in the United Nations Security Council In the non-permanent category for 2024-2025 and called on Egypt to share their experience in the campaigning and running the tenure of office having served in that capacity before. The Deputy Foreign Minister informed Mdm. Soha about the gains Sierra Leone has made in the International arena part of which has culminated in the election of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio to serve as chairman of the APRM and further called on the government of Egypt to support His Excellency’s tenure as Chairman of the APRM. She further reaffirmed President Julius Maada Bio’s commitment to deepen bilateral relations between our two countries and further consolidate these ties..

Responding, Ambassador Gendi congratulated H. E. President Julius Bio as the new chairman of the APRM, and pledged her country’s fullest support for a successful tenure. She also commended the president strategic leadership of the Committee of Ten (C10) which according to her, has been remarkable. She also acknowledged Sierra Leone’s support for Egypt to host COP 27 in November 2022. Mdm. Gendi pledged her country’s support for Sierra Leone’s fight against corruption, Women’s empowerment and Democratic good governance amongst others . She pledged her support to work with leading women’s organizations in Sierra Leone to support the government’s efforts in achieving gender equality.

Also present at the meetings were, Sulay-Manah Kpukumu, Deputy Director General (Policy) MoFAIC, Samuel Alie Kargbo who represented Ambassador Sadiq Sillah, Allan Logan, Director Multilateral Affairs MoFAIC, Robert Koroma, Snr Assistant Secretary to Director General MoFAIC and Hannah Yelie Kamara, Assistant Secretary to Deputy Minister.
