Kumasi, April 19, GNA – The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel K. Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council, has expressed worry over the manner in which issues relating to witchcraft had dominated some Christian societies in the country.
« We should be careful the way we go about accusing innocent people of witchcraft.
« It is an unhealthy development that some Christians, out of ignorance, and sometimes under the influence of some self-styled men of God, go to the extent of even accusing their parents of witchcraft, » Most Rev. Prof. Asante said.
Delivering the sermon at a special service in Kumasi, organised by the Adum Wesley Cathedral of the Methodist Church Ghana, to mark the death of Jesus Christ (Good Friday), he cautioned the faithful against such trend.
Most Rev. Prof. Asante, a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, entreated the congregation to look into the future with hope.
« Our failures, curses and shame have been taken away by the Christ. We should, therefore, look into the future with optimism, » he stated.
The Chairman of the Peace Council reminded the people that no one was righteous, and for that matter, it behoved on all and sundry to forgive each other for wrongs committed.
In a related development, Rev. Dr. Kofi Effah-Ababio, a Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, has implored Ghanaians to strive to advance the cause of peace and unity in the society.
Preaching at the Oforikrom Victory Congregation of the Church in the Oforikrom Municipality, he espoused the significance of the Easter festivities, saying it was meant to enhance reconciliation.
He asked the citizenry to be submissive, respectful and humble in their endeavours.
