Eastern Co, Telkom lead others at hockey’s Africa Cup for Champion Clubs

Abuja, Dec. 17, 2018 (NAN) –  Eastern Co hockey club of Egypt lead five other clubsides at the 2018 Africa Cup for Club Champions (ACCC) in Abuja, Nigeria after beating Ghana’s Exchequers 2-1 on Sunday.

The Egyptian side had on Saturday beaten Nigeria’s Minna-based Niger Flickers 4-0 and are now with the full points after Match Day 2 in the competition’s male category.

Their compatriots, El-Sharkia, are right behind them with one win and one draw, after whipping Kada Stars of Kaduna 7-1 on Sunday.

They had drawn 4-4 with GRA of Ghana on Saturday, and the west African side trail them in third place on goals difference.

The Ghanaian side on Sunday beat Niger Flickers 4-2, while Exchequers who beat Kada Stars 1-0 on Saturday are now in fourth place with one win and one loss.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Nigerian duo of Niger Flickers and Kada Stars bring up the rear in the six-club championship.

In the women’s competition, Telkom of Kenya are the leaders after two wins from two matches.

The Kenyan side who were 2-1 winners over Ghana Police on Saturday beat compatriots USIU 4-0 on Sunday.

The GRA female club who drew 0-0 with Kada Queens on Saturday are in second place, after also drawing goalless with country rivals Ghana Police on Sunday.

Kada Queens are in third place in spite of two draws also, adding a 0-0 draw with compatriots Delta Queens on Sunday to Saturday’s draw with GRA.

The Delta Queens are in fourth place with two draws also, having drawn with USIU on Saturday (1-1) and Kada Queens on Sunday (0-0).

Ghana Police and USIU bring up the rear with one draw each.

NAN reports that the competition, which has 12 clubs participating in the male and female categories, with six each, ends on Dec. 22.(NAN)
