Luanda, 23 April (ANGOP) – Angola Football Federation (FAF) clarified on Wednesday in Luanda, that the football teams have right to vote in the election of new governing body of this organization, in accordance with the Basic Law of the Sports System.
The clarification follows reactions from statements made by sport officials, who claimed that the football clubs have been excluded from voting in the election of the new FAF body.
FAF in its turn explained that the directorate of the federation has no power to approve or change the statute and regulations of the institution.
The document recalls that, in the history of the Angolan sports, the teams have always directly participated in the election of the provincial Associations and these, in turn, represent them in the FAF new leaders’ elections.
In 2003, the new Legal Regime of Sports Associations was approved, which introduced changes to the composition of the voting people, allowing, this time, the direct presence of the associations in the election of the members of the federation’s governing bodies.
Last February, the president of FAF, Artur Almeida e Silva, announced for next July the elections for the four-year period 2020/2024, in which he will be candidate for a second term.
