FIFA Ultimatum: Black Stars, Black Queens in danger?

By Simon Asare,
Accra, Aug. 14, 2018 (GNA) – Ghana is likely be stripped off hosting rights of the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup Nations, as well as forfeit the 2019 African Cup Nations qualifier against Kenya, should the country fail to meet the deadline, set by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA), to withdraw a liquidation process against the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

FIFA on Monday, August 13, communicated to Ghana through the Liaison team, who have been mandated to run Ghana football in the interim, that, they were vehemently opposed to any processes of liquidation, which according to them constitutes « undue interference in the affairs of the GFA, in contravention of article 14 paragraph 1 (i) and article 19 paragraph 1 of the FIFA statutes ».

Though, the Government of Ghana is yet to take any decision on the letter, it’s unlikely, the liquidation process would be withdrawn, considering earlier stance taken to dissolve the GFA.

If it happens as predicted, Ghana would miss out of the opportunity of hosting the biggest women’s football showpiece in Africa, especially with the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF), already unhappy with preparations towards the tournament.

The Black Stars, would also missed out on the opportunity to feature in the 2019 AFCON to be hosted by Cameroon, if they fail to honour their second group qualifying match against Kenya on September 8, 2018.

Ghana’s female under 17 national team, the Black Maidens, could also miss out on featuring in this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be hosted by Uruguay.
