Kumasi, April 09, GNA – The Forestry Commission (FC) has presented a cheque for GHC200,000 to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana’s second largest referral facility to aid the fight against the flu-like coronavirus pandemic.
Added to the amount, were 20 pieces of infrared thermometers, for checking the temperature of people, visiting the hospital.
Mr. John Allotey, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, said the money was meant for the purchase of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other vital items.
Similar donations had been made the Legon and Achimota Hospitals and the Achimota Police Station.
He pledged continued support to health workers, who were in the frontline of the fight against the respiratory disease – COVID-19.
Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso, the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, said they were doing everything to give the best of care to patients.
The facility, as a case management center, has been dealing with critically ill patients.
It has set up a 25-bed highly infectious acceleration unit for management of COVID-19 patients and dedicated two beds for intensive care assistance.
Dr. Owusu-Danso said its utilization of PPE had increased in the wake of the pandemic.
The use of gloves has tripled and about 3,200 millilitres of sanitizer is required, every week, as against 500ml, previously.
He thanked the Commission for the donation and said it could not have come at a better time.
