Ghana to host International Book Fair

Accra, Oct. 12, GNA – The Ghana Publishers Association, would in November host the 13th Ghana International Book Fair at the Ghana international Trade Fair Centre-La, Accra.
The event fixed for November 3 to November 7 would be on the theme: « Professional book publishing and e-services – a resource for national development. »
It is aimed at showcasing books, from far and near, new, old, the good and the ugly.
It would also provide the platform for activities such as E-marketing workshops and seminars for both students and book industry practitioners, reading competitions for basic schools, workshops on editing, design and illustration.
A statement signed by Mrs Anne Yayra Sakyi, Planning Committee Chairman said, there would be workshops on digital publishing, rights buying and selling, book reading and signing by authors.
It said participants would benefit from the meeting with foreign writers and publishers as well.
According to the statement, the toast of this year’s fair is a special printers’ village where the Ghana Printers and Paper Converters’ Association have installed a printing centre to demonstrate to the public how printing is done both mechanically and digitally.
The statement said, the opening ceremony would take place on Tuesday, November 3 at 10am with the Minister of Education in attendance.
It added that schools, teachers, students are advised to take advantage of activities such as reading and quiz competitions to be part of the five-day celebration.
The statement said, the event would focus on the book as a major cultural tool relevant to the development of the country, adding that without books the world would be at a standstill.
