MONROVIA, July 15 (LINA) – Local health authorities in Grand Gedeh County have distributed faucet-fitted buckets for regular hand-washing, hand sanitizers, and thermometers for routine check of body temperature to over 10 high schools in the county.
Health Officer Dr. Augustine Fannieh said amid the fact that Grand Gedeh has so far not recorded a single case of the Coronavirus, the County Health Team (CHT) is applying all its professional wisdom to prevent an outbreak here.
The head of the county’s health Incident Management System (IMS) told the Liberia News Agency his team is using the opportunity to create more awareness at schools and communities against COVID-19 whose cases in Liberia has passed 1,000 with 51 deaths and 423 recoveries.
Like in all parts of the country, people in Grand Gedeh are advised to compulsorily wear facemasks in public places. Such health advice, which includes physical distancing of at least six feet, is equally crucial for schools preparing pupils the impending West African Senior Secondary Schools Examination (WASSCE).
In the meantime, the central headquarters of the county’s police detachment also received thermometers from the CHT.
As part of the local health team’s Covid-19 relief initiative, Dr. Fannieh said eight bags of 25kg rice and the usual health security materials have also been donated to the regional midwifery school whose students are preparing for their affiliation program with various clinics and hospitals to enhance their professional skills.
According to the County Health Officer, his office is committed to ensuring that all borders and/or points of entry into the county are kept under the surveillance of health professionals to easily ward off or stem potential virus outbreak.
“County authorities, community leaders, civil society organizations, joint security, and residents are well engaged in robust awareness on the compulsory use of face masks and other Covid-19 preventive measures,” said Dr. Fannieh.
