Gushegu, June 8, GNA – The Gushegu district directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), has recorded 22 absenteeism in the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which ends on June 08.
Alhaji Iddi Mahama, Gushegu District Director of Education told the GNA that ten males and two females had been absent since the commencement of the examination.
He attributed the Absenteeism to pregnancy and movement to the cities to engage in head porting popularly known as kayayee and other nonexistent jobs.
He said the district registered a total of 1,109 candidates comprising 672 boys and 437 girls, which 662 boys and 425 girls were currently taking part in the examination.
Mr Iddi appealed to parents to show interests in their children’s education by investing to educate them especially the girl child.
He said it was also important for parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their wards and give them career counselling as ways of nurturing them into responsible adulthood.
