MONROVIA, Aug. 4 (LINA) -The government of Liberia through the Ministry of Health will launch on Wednesday, August 5, the Johnson and Johnson (J &J) vaccines that was received few days ago from the United States of America.
Speaking at Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs and Tourism (MICAT) regular press briefing on Tuesday, Health Minister Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah stated that the Ministry received a total of 302,400 doses of the J&J Vaccine from the people of America in order to combat the global coronavir us crises.
She asserted that the importance of the COVID-19 vaccines is to enable the immune system get stronger as well as to help the body to fight against the virus in case of infection, stressing that it is essential for all nations around world.
The country’s health minister, however, stressed that there is need for more people to take the vaccine, noting that the more immunity one has will help to combat the virus.
The MOH boss intoned that of the total number of tests that has been done, the total confirmed cases is 5,506, with recovery of 5, 167 and 58 active cases across the country, adding the w\World Health Organization is targeting 10 percent of the country’s population that should take the vaccine by the end of September.
Minister Jallah explained that the country is now making substantial steps amid the pandemic, adding that Grand Bassa has one case, Grand Cape Mont has one case, with Bong having three as well as Montserrado 15 active cases.
« The others are Grand Kru with four, Lofa accounting for 26, while Margibi recorded two and Maryland 19 active cases, adding, »There are six counties ranging from Rivercess, River Gee, Gbarpolu, Bong, Grand Gedeh and Nimba County now in countdown, which means no active cases, » Dr. Jallah narrated.
She then motivated citizens to support the government in the fight against the virus by taking the vaccines, adding, »Let us all continue to wear our facemasks and keep our social physical distancing and get vaccinated. »
Also speaking, the head for Montserrado Health Team, Dr. Yatta Wopoe, stated that the vaccine will be served at 40 health facilities following its launch, listing the Monrovia City Corporation, Paynesville Town Hall, Bardnersville Town Hall, Gardnersville Town Hall, and APM Terminal as temporary sites that Liberians can also get their jabs.
She said Bardnersville Health Sector, Chocolate City, New Georgia Hospital, Iron Factory, Catholic Hospital, SOS Clinic, UN Drive Clinic, Soniwein Clinic, JFK Hospital, Redemption Hospital, Clara Town Health Sector, Duport Road Health Center, Careysburg Community Clinic, among others, are hospitals the vaccines will also be administered.
Stating that Red light, Gobachop, Jacob Town, Redemption Day Bardnersville Market, Rally Town, Wrotto Town, among others, are the other areas that will have vaccines.
