Accra , Mar. 24, GNA — The Tema Chapter of Ghana Immigration Service Ladies Association (IMMILAC) has inducted new executives into office with a call on members to take advantage of the opportunities the service offers to enhance their careers.
The ceremony was part of an end of year get-together attended by ladies from the various units of the Ghana Immigration Service in the Tema Region to interact and inspire themselves to achieve higher heights in the service.
Speaking at the ceremony, the National President of IMMILAC, Mrs. Judith Dzokoto-Lomoh, encouraged the ladies to « seize the opportunities which present themselves in our career, home, church, community; go for them according to your might. »
Mrs. Dzokoto-Lomoh observed the deplorable state of some of the Immigration Service stations in the northern and other parts of the country and informed that the Controller General had promised he would ensure that no female officer, except by choice, remained in those areas for more than two years.
She informed that of all the deplorable places they visited, from Tamale to Yendi to Tatale to Saboba to Bunkpurugu to Wanjuga, etc., « We found our women playing their roles in support of the vision of the service. »
Mrs. Dzokoto-Lomoh, who was also the Deputy Controller-General, Finance and Administration, Ghana Immigration Service, asked the ladies to brighten the corners they found themselves.
« Do something to be remembered for. Ask yourself what legacy you are leaving, not what I am getting, » she hinted.
On behalf of the Controller-General, she asked the officers to comport themselves, be professional and dignify their positions and themselves.
The Tema Regional Commander of Ghana Immigration Service, ACI Samuel Bassintale Amadu, in a statement read on his behalf, said that the world had come to a stage where countries were seeking to empower women to take up responsibilities and challenges in their various fields of endeavour.
He observed that women could perform creditably in their fields of endeavor and could not be stopped under any circumstance if they were given the right platform with the right support.
The President of Tema Regional IMMILAC chapter, ACI Evelyn Asiedu-Gyekye, said IMMILAC was created to empower the female officers with the Ghana Immigration Service through capacity building and present a platform for ladies to exhibit their potentials and seek their general welfare.
Expressing joy for the revival of the Tema Chapter of the association, she said, « IMMILAC believes in women empowerment and also trust that when women are given the opportunity, they will do exploits. »
ACI Asiedu-Gyekye observed that women around the globe were being noticed for their role in the socio-economic development of their countries, « And I am proud to say that Ghanaian women are not left out. »
She added that, « We believe in your God-given abilities and what you can do; so please be bold and confident, be determined, seize opportunities, improve yourself, trust in God and aim beyond the sky.
IMMILAC began on the 11th of June, 1991 with Mrs. Esther Quarcoo, Controller of Immigration (rtd) Mrs. Joyce Addo, an Assistant Director of Immigration (rtd), and Ms. Elizabeth Baffoe (deceased) playing instrumental roles at various stages of the progress of the association.
The association was finally inaugurated in December 2009 during Ms. Baffoe’s leadership. IMMILAC is now a registered organization, a registered company limited by guarantee and affiliated to the International Association of Women Police.
